Misidentified Mail as Junk
If you have misidentified a piece of mail as junk in web mail for avEight or Fruit Flowers, here is how you can correct this.
- Open the message that has been misidentified as junk.
- Click on the bounce link (it is listed to the right of the options heading).
- As a result of clicking the bounce link you will be taken to a screen with a "To:" field on it.
In the "To:" field write the address notjunkmail@aveight.com (if it is avEight mail) or notjunkmail@fruitflowers.com (if it is Fruit Flowers mail) and click the send button. By doing this you have indicated to our mail server that it is misidentifying a piece of mail and it will correct itself.
- Open a junk message that has slipped though the filter without being tagged as junk and bounce it to junkmail@aveight.com (if it is avEight mail) or junkmail@fruitflowers.com (if it is Fruit Flowers mail). By doing this you have indicated to our mail server that it has missed a piece of junk mail and it will correct itself.
In your default view in Mail go to View > Customize toolbar
Click on the Redirect icon (lightning arrow right) and drag it to your toolbar
When to use the redirect button:
- If you get a piece of spam that has *** JUNK *** in the subject, do nothing, the system is doing fine
- If you get a piece of spam that does NOT have *** JUNK *** in the subject, REDIRECT it to junkmail@aveight.com
- If you get a piece of not-spam and it has *** JUNK *** in the subject, REDIRECT it to notjunkmail@aveight.com

Junk Mail Filter
The server will tag any piece of mail it suspects is junk with ***JUNK MAIL*** in the subject line. There are 3 possible results:
- The filter correctly identifies a piece of junk and tags it as such - For correctly identified junk mail there is no action to take.
- The filter incorrectly tags a piece of legitimate mail as junk - For incorrectly identified mail we need to make sure that the filter "learns" that it has made a mistake. We can teach the mail filter it has incorrectly identified mail as junk by bouncing (NOT FORWARDING) the piece of mail to notjunkmail@fruitflowers.com.
- The filter does not tag a piece of junk mail as junk - For junk mail that has slipped through our filter we need to make sure that the filter "learns" it is junk. We can teach the mail filter that a piece of mail is junk by bouncing (NOT FORWARDING) the piece of mail to junkmail@fruitflowers.com
How to bounce a piece of mail:
In web mail:
- Open the message that has been misidentified as junk and click on the bounce link (it is listed to the right of the options heading).
- As a result of clicking the bounce link you will be taken to a screen with a "To:" field on it. In the "To:" field write the address notjunkmail@fruitflowers.com or not junkmail@aveight.com and click the send button. By doing this you have indicated to our mail server that it is misidentifying a piece of mail and it will correct itself.
- Open a junk message that has slipped though the filter without being tagged as junk and bounce it to junkmail@fruitflowers.com or junkmail@aveight.com. By doing this you have indicated to our mail server that it has missed a piece of junk mail and it will correct itself.

If you are using Entourage follow these steps below.
- Go to Tools Menu, then choose Rules
- Choose New
- Set up your new rule like this one illustrated below. In this example we just delete the message without verifying it is indeed SPAM.

Or you can simply move the tagged message to a separate folder to verify first.

Stop Spam in Outlook Express
In Outlook Express (this option is not available in Outlook):
- Open the piece of mail that has been misidentified as junk.
- Go to the actions menu and select resend this message.
- You will get a prompt that reads "you do not appear to be the original sender of this message, Are you sure you want to resend it?" press yes.
- Then address the resulting piece of mail to notjunkmail@fruitflowers.com.
- Open a junk message that has slipped though the filter without being tagged as junk and resend it to junkmail@fruitflowers.com. By doing this you have indicated to our mail server that it has missed a piece of junk mail and it will correct itself. Resending in outlook is the same as bouncing mail in our web mail system.
Please be careful to make sure you are bouncing (or resending in outlook) and not forwarding mail to our filter. If you forward a message to our filter you risk being identified as a spammer by our filter and you will have a very difficult time receiving mail.
Our experience shows that after a few weeks of training the filter will start tagging most junk mail as junk and will not misidentify any legitimate piece of mail. Once this is the case we will change the setting on the filter from tagging junk mail with ***JUNK MAIL*** in the subject line to completely blocking the junk mail. And we anticipate that at this point you will see a drastic reduction in the amount of junk mail you receive.
